5. Best for ages seven and up, Mantis is a colourfully cutthroat card game of rainbows and revenge with only two rules: steal or score. Okay, before I get myself into a technicolour tizz, I’m going to tell you about the new card game from the team behind Exploding Kittens (then I am going back to the colours…. It makes the game dead simple to teach other players, and it’s the kind of game that I could see my family actually playing with me (as opposed to the more overtly complex games that I love so much).
It’s essentially a gold mine, I suppose, if you can figure out how to get folks moving from the mass-market pool to the hobby pool, but that’s a bit beyond my area of expertise. Everything is done very professionally with this company and always lets you know every step of the process. Based on The Oatmeal’s viral comic, Mantis is an easy-to-learn, quick-to-play card game for both families and adults. In this dodgeball card game, go head to head with your opponents collecting cards while throwing and avoiding squishy, adorable Avocados. No explicit player count preference, but I’m most likely to play this game at four or fewer players. Scoring in Mantis is a great feeling – a real “Yesss” moment if you have built up a solid collection of a colour and your rainbow comes through for you. Rather than playing to 10 cards in your Score pile, you play to 15, which helps extend the game a bit, and you can chain a Steal action. com/boardgame/312667" target="_blank" class="btn btn-default">Link BGG
