About this deal

It uses strawberry fruit and seed extract to reduce hyperpigmentation, unclog pores, and reduce excess oil, plus hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump. It is excellent for acne-prone skin and safe to use even if you have fungi-related skin issues, like seborrhea or fungal acne. You can usually find it right in the very first spot of the ingredient list, meaning it’s the biggest thing out of all the stuff that makes up the product. It's quite a multi-tasker: can be used to improve skin moisturization, as a solvent, to boost preservative efficacy or to influence the sensory properties of the end formula.

If you've been a reader for some time now, you'd know that I love skincare products that contain Vitamin C. That said, I do like the way it feels, as it's quite thick to blend in, which is what I like in a nighttime moisturizer. It’s one of New Haven-based board-certified dermatologist Mona Gohara’s favorite ingredients: “The reason I like it the most is because it has the most science behind it,” she says.

A super common, waxy, white, solid stuff that helps water and oil to mix together, gives body to creams and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth.

During stressful times like these, the phrase “take care of yourself” can feel like a set-up: Sleep eight hours, but don’t forget to exercise; eat healthy foods, but go ahead and indulge; work hard, but give yourself a break. But the Bliss Bright Idea Vitamin C Serum and Moisturizer contain 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, a little detail that can make a big difference. A handy multi-tasking ingredient that gives the skin a nice, soft feel and also boosts the effectiveness of other preservatives. Bottom line: Licorice is a great skincare ingredient with significant depigmenting, anti-inflammatory and even some antioxidant properties.Probably that’s why citric acid is usually not used as an exfoliant but more as a helper ingredient in small amounts to adjust the pH of a formulation. The manufacturer did an in-vivo (made on real people) study with 45 volunteers and found that used twice daily for 84 days 1% and 2. They are good friends because ethylhexylglycerin can boost the effectiveness of phenoxyethanol (and other preservatives) and as an added bonus it feels nice on the skin too. Water (Aqua) (Eau), Glycerin, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Propanediol, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Squalane, Tocopherol, Pseudozyma Epicola/Camellia Japonica Seed Oil Ferment Extract Filtrate, Pseudozyma Epicola/Camellia Sinensis Seed Oil/Glucose/Malt Extract/Soybean Flour/Yeast Extract Ferment Filtrate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Lecithin, Bisabolol, Pullulan, Xanthan Gum, Sclerotium Gum, Acacia Senegal Gum, Hydroxyacetophenone, Caprylyl Glycol, Hydrogenated Farnesene, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Polyglyceryl-4 Laurate/Succinate, Glyceryl Stearate, C14-22 Alcohols, C12-20 Alkyl Glucoside, Silica, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Hexylene Glycol, Ethoxydiglycol, Sodium Citrate, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citric Acid, Fragrance (Parfum), Limonene. Most of the time I can just play up the shine as a “dewy” factor, so maybe it’s a win-win situation.

It works to illuminate, plump, and perk up complexions in the short- and long-term, even after just one use — and it relies on an ingredient I know works: vitamin C.

The problem, though, is that it's very unstable, turns brown and becomes ineffective in no time (after a few month) and the cosmetics industry is trying to come up with smart derivatives that are stable and have the magic properties of pure Vitamin C. Like the spinach I try to mix into every bowl of pasta I eat, I know it’s good for me, and I want to make it a habit. Waking up has become exhilarating: Am I going to be looking at a red and blotchy complexion or something more glowy and bright?
