About this deal

It is one of the best exports of British engineering and it has really challenged every other off-road automotive manufacturer. It’s a big enough issue for some schools to have a “Failure Week”, where pupils are encouraged to take a risk and try out new sports, subjects and hobbies, even if it means they might fail at the first attempt. He tried not to think about about the future, because when he did, all he saw was more of the same – a life not his own, governed by stupid rules and traditions and ceremonies he neither understood nor cared about. I believe it needs an SVR or SVX option — I can only imagine a V8 in the Defender would be utterly insane — but I guess that probably won’t happen… Still, one can dream!

Add to that the contrasting personalities of Brian and LC and you have scenarios and dialogue that are both funny and moving.Alfie is helped by non-royal Hayley who just happened to witness Alfie’s father as Defender in a fierce battle. It weaves superheros and British history brilliantly making the history part fascinating while you enjoy the rip roaring superhero story.

Defender of the Realm is a fun filled action packed adventure which presents an alternative view (or is it? Alfie has to face up to all his insecurities and accept the mantle of great responsibility that comes with being king.It follows directly from the events of the first book, so I'd advise refreshing your memory before picking it up.

If you like the sound of Alfie's adventures, try another story about a teenage hero in Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz one of my favourite authors. The characters are wonderfully drawn, from the awkward and loveable Prince Alfie to his brave and intelligent friend Hayley whose efforts are instrumental in helping Alfie defend his country and her adorable Gran, who I had a real soft spot for.

I was very excited to be asked to participate in the blog tour for this second instalment in the Defender of the Realm series.

After the Defender’s losing battle against the Black Dragon, the United Kingdom finds itself under the cruel control of “Lord Protector” Lock, the undead Viking invaders and the monstrous berserkers unleashed by the Raven Banner. Alfie’s life changes in a moment, and it turns out there is more to being a Royal than waving to the camera. But, after his father is announced dead by a “heart attack,” Alfie becomes the new king, and also gains the ancient power of “Defender of the Realm. With the help of his twin brother Richard (younger by 10 seconds), his history professor, and bodyguard Alfie learns what it means to take on his two new roles. Whenever I see a Landy, wherever I am in the world, I love to take a photograph and post it to my social media as it always makes me smile.

My go-to wheels used to always be a Range Rover, but the new Defender is so good, it is literally one of the nicest cars I’ve ever driven. Not just the two protagonists, but every side character has moments to show who they truly are, and I found that enjoyable. It's a story deeply rooted in Britain, exploring famous landmarks and the succession of the monarchy since the dark ages, starting with Alfie's namesake Alfred the Great.
