About this deal

What’s more, design and build quality are superb, while the terrific remote and a smattering of new features make it a joy to use. On the question of which is 'best' way to connect, it's impossible for Canton to give general advice on this, as there are too many possible permutations of TV/player/set-top box etc. Again, it comes down to personal preference: if you think it sounds better connected from player to DM50, go for it! Others may prefer to route all inputs via their TV, with a single lead going to the Canton. Like the DM50 and DM75 before it, the DM100 is an outstanding performer. At first you might struggle to get your head round the sheer scale of the DM100’s sound, which doesn’t seem possible from such a slender unit. It will adjust the equalisers automatically with every scene in your film, boxset show or music channel so you always hear it just how it was designed to be heard. Standard, Stadium, Music, Cinema, News and Stereo give dramas, football matches, radio channels and festival coverage the perfect treatment. Another minor bum note is Surround mode, which does little to enhance your enjoyment, aside from a gentle widening of the soundstage. It’s fine but you lose the directness of Stereo mode.

My main concern is where there could be a quality difference between the Canton receiving a 5.1 signal and a PCM signal - whether it's surround effects would be compromised dependant on imput. A word of warning though – don’t be tempted to use the surround setting for music, as it’s too vague and unfocused. Your current TV remote will control it for less clutter, and if you use the HDMI or optical inputs, there is special lip sync technology which will keep everything in good time. It’s lovely to use, it looks classier than its price tag would suggest, and the sound quality is the best of its kind. You may have come across the term woofer, which is used to refer to a speaker designed to put out low end frequencies. A subwoofer, on the other hand, is only designed to handle the extreme low end. When you hear a bass that rattles your stomach, chances are it’s a subwoofer that doing it. I mainly had my DM50 on two channels: 4Music (for Bass and Treble) and QVC (for Midrange), and that seemed to do the job (I wouldn't recommend that you actually watch either channel, though!).

This soundbar includes two tweeter drivers with a diameter of 1 inch or 19mm, delivering clear and crisp high-frequency sounds. Additionally, it is equipped with two mid-range drivers with a diameter of 2 inches or 50mm, producing well-defined mid-range frequencies. Furthermore, the Canton DM 75 features four woofer drivers with a diameter of 4 inches or 100mm, delivering deep, rich bass tones to enhance the overall audio experience. Thanks to both of you fro taking the time to help me with some of my issues, I look forward to any more comments or advice you may have.I have just bought a Canton DM50 sound base and am running a bluray player and TV into it. Everything has been connected as per instructions - the TV via an optical toslink and the bluray player via a coaxial (both cables were supplied with the unit). On the front is a small LED display above a subtle Canton logo. The display only has room for three digits, which feels a little simplistic when dealing with some of the setup menu options but it’s fine otherwise. Thankfully it disappears when idle, leaving you with a blank fascia that doesn’t distract from the screen. The Canton DM 75 is a soundbar that offers a powerful audio experience with its 2.1 channel output and a RMS rated power of 200W. It is equipped with audio decoders such as Dolby Digital and DTS, ensuring high-quality sound reproduction. The soundbar features a crossover frequency of 3000Hz, providing a balanced distribution of frequencies for optimal audio performance. Obviously none of this is an issue if using the DM50 in stereo mode, which (as the What Hi-fi review and others have stated) may be preferred anyway.

Dimensions were 60 x 30 and a perfect match for the granite board! Maybe this was a bit of overkill, but better that than to try and change anything once the Kuro and Canton were in position. The current arrangement is: The DM 75 is a surprisingly good Bluetooth music player too, making the most of its three-way driver complement and aptX support. It digs out details that go missing on lesser soundbases and renders basslines with great agility. Verdict A key feature for music lovers is Bluetooth 4.0 with apt-X, which allows CD-quality streaming from mobile devices. You’ll also find on-board Dolby Digital decoding and DTS TruSurround, DTS’s processing technology for soundbars and TVs.

What Makes Us Different?

Bigger than the previous efforts and able to support up to 40 kg of weight, the DM76 is intended for TV sizes 40 inches and bigger. Inside is a 200W amplifier that drives a two-way stereo loudspeaker array that’s made up of a pair of 50mm midrange drivers and two 19mm fabric-dome tweeters. A downward-firing sub brings to the table four 100mm bass drivers for a “deep and punchy” low end performance. Sound modes include Stereo and DTS TruSurround, plus a new Voice mode that boosts speech and a Hotel mode that sets a maximum volume limit. The DM55 will also decode two-channel Dolby Digital. Unlike a bar which sits in front of your TV, a base is a large flat speaker which is designed to be a stand for the telly. This can often save space and create a sleeker, more confined look. Built-in aptX Bluetooth gives the DM55a second life as a wireless music speaker, anda new Select feature automatically switches the soundbase into Bluetooth mode whenyou hit play on a paired device. Other fresh features include a dialogue-boosting Voice mode and a Hotel option that sets a maximum volume limit – useful if you’re re-homed to a travel tavern.

What we mean by that is that cupboards or shelves can often introduce unwanted sympathetic vibrations - think sound that is ‘boomy’ or muffled. Careful positioning is especially important for soundbases featuring subs (which are mostly down-firing). The legs of your TV, and their spacing and weight, might also require creative workarounds in regards to positioning. Either way, you shouldn’t find this too challenging! To finish (finally!), buying and using the Canton has mostly been an absolute joy. I haven't had to artificially manipulate the sound to create a vast improvement on what I was using before. Aesthetically, it fits and blends in beautifully and seamlessly. The build and finish is top quality. It was a doddle to set up and is simplicity itself to use. And the sound is truly magnificent from something so small and discreet; it's not just about the quantity but the quality of sound that's been so hugely impressive. What’s more, it’s a cinch to use and build quality is top-notch. Yes it’s expensive but the DM100’s performance, design and simplicity are so impressive that you won’t regret splashing out. Canton DM100 – Verdict
