These can range from a character simply appearing as a playable character or boss in the game, as a special guest character, or a major crossover where two or more franchises encounter. Perhaps the most obvious parodic crossover is found when characters from two series interact outside either series. Stories need not contain a car chase or a gun going off to draw readers in or keep them reading. Tension in fiction is created in a variety of ways, but always includes compelling characters, fresh plot lines, spot on pacing, charged dialogue, and settings that support the central conflict of the story. To make their investigation even more challenging, is the arrival of Thomas Tull, the mega-bestselling nonfiction crime writer, who has come to Washington to perform his own research for purposes of writing a book on “The Family Man”. Tull has been part of previous murder investigations and even contributed to the capture of several serial killers that turned him into a famous personality with a large fanbase. His intent is to join Alex and John’s investigation and be on the inside, and if they refuse him, he will do his own thing and beat them at their own game.These books are always a highlight in my reading year, and I will continue to read them as long as James Patterson writes them. There have been numerous crossovers in Japanese cinema. The boom of kaiju films saw a lot of crossovers produced at Toho Studios, with some of the monsters forming teams in numerous movies, much like the Marvel movie franchise. Godzilla, Mothra and Rodan (Radon) each first appeared in standalone films before being set against each other or even teaming up against stronger enemies. Their first encounter was in 1964, first in Mothra vs. Godzilla and a few months later of all three in Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster. In 1962, Toho released King Kong vs. Godzilla. After the comics publishing house Marvel Comics ventured into movie production, they set off to produce solitary films with popular superheroes from the Avengers team, with characters from upcoming films making cameo appearances in films starring another superhero, leading up to the crossover film The Avengers (2012). Thomas Tull is eventually apprehended and held as a prime suspect in The Family Man case. The issue is that it may not be the slam dunk Alex Cross and company were hoping for because something just doesn’t seem quite right and Tull is also so shifty and untrustworthy it is difficult to completely pin him down. Throughout TRIPLE CROSS I longed for more insight into the mind of the killer known as Family Man only to realize that Patterson stays away from just that subject matter as a way to keep the subterfuge going. The end result is a baffling, puzzling case with double and triple crosses thrown in for good measure, that will keep loyal readers happy and entertain new readers hopefully to the point where they will seek out each of the prior twenty-nine novels in what remains one of the best thriller series ever created. This is different from a spoof, where one discrete character, setting, or universe, copies another character, setting, or universe, often in a comedic manner. Karla Faye lived about five miles away from where I lived then. I've known Houston people who are like her, broken junkies from broken families, lost before they even have a chance to find their life, or, rather, lost to the life they've found maybe. Anyways, fascinating to me to read this story, this young woman lived in the same neighborhood as I but in a completely different world. Yessss! If I was in trouble, I would definitely want Alex Cross helping me. He is tough, takes no crap and highly dedicated. He loves his family more than anything, and they are a part of my world now too. How can you not love Nanna Mama and her cooking, or Ali and his keen detective skills. They can occur by virtue of a dream sequence, in which the characters of one show will appear as part of a dream had by a character on another show. This method was perhaps used most famously to explain to audiences that the entirety of Newhart had been the dream of Bob Newhart's character on The Bob Newhart Show.
