About this deal

The 770 is a high-quality condenser microphone that can be used for many different things. Singers love it because it has a strong low-frequency response and a clear high-end. We employ a high-quality FET pre-amp and a transformerless balanced output for a broad dynamic range and low noise. Are MXL microphones any good? I’d like to keep this MXL 770 review somewhat educational, and if you’ve landed yourself here there’s a good chance you’re looking to buy your first mic soon. There are a few things most quality microphones have in common regardless of the price tag attached to them. This microphone is the best in the market for home recording. The MXL 770 is an excellent choice for podcasting due to its strength in recording vocals. When starting home recording and purchasing a reasonably priced dynamic microphone that will provide you with high-quality sound, the MXL 770 is the ideal choice for you. Lastly, as with every condenser microphone, the MXL 770 requires 48 volts of phantom power for its 150 ohms of impedance. That delivers a maximum sound pressure level (SPL) of 137 dB, which means it’s capable of recording super-heavy drums, for example. Downsides & Alternatives

Overall, the Audio-Technica AT2020 has a smooth audio reproductreion which makes it suitable for recording different kinds of vocals and instruments as well, which is not the case with the MXL 770. This is a pretty versatile mic for recording both male and female vocals, doing voiceover work, and for producing podcasts. The two main features the 770 has are its -10 dB pad switch and its HPF or bass-roll off switch. -10 dB Pad Switch The 990 has a few peaks in the 15 kHz range and generally higher gain above that. This simply isn’t the case with the 770. I could see this making a big difference with high-pitched sounds. The treble roll-off in the 770’s response curve from MXL is definitely steeper, so the evidence for this is twofold.

Best Rapping Microphones for Rappers on a Budget

Dimension-wise, the MXL 770 is a bit heavier than the Audio-Technica AT2020 and also has a bigger diameter. The Audio-Technica AT2020 is longer than the MXL 770 though. Features Being a small diaphragm condenser microphone, the MXL 770 might not be able to capture the entire frequency spectrum of your voice or instruments. However, it will produce significantly less noise when recording.

It’s important to note that the MXL 770 microphone has an XLR cord, which means it can’t be plugged straight into your computer like a USB mic. You’ll need a USB audio interface into which you’ll plug the microphone before connecting the interface’s USB wire to your computer. Is XLR better than USB? The first thing we notice about the MXL 770s frequency response curve is the massive spike in gain from 5 kHz all the way to 20 kHz. Parts of this bump in the treble response are nearly +10 dB! That’s quite a bit, but independent testing shows that the MXL 990 is the one with the exaggerated high-end.This is ideal if you don’t have an acoustically treated space, or if you’re recording at close proximity from your singer, speaker, etc. It also gives it a smaller footprint, which makes moving it around and mounting, much more straightforward. 4. Comes With Necessary Accessories The MXL770 is an excellent microphone with an excellent output that ensures perfect sound production. If you want a definitive better or worse evaluation, it’s not possible. For home studio use, both the MXL 990 and the MXL 770 are solid choices, particularly with their affordable price points. Technical specs slightly favor the MXL 990, but the sharp peaks of the MXL 770 could make a difference when you struggle to get a vocal to cut through a dense mix. I've even tried it mic'ing my combo with an electric guitar and though a bit bassy, not bad actually...

The sheer volume of choices available these days for a budget studio condenser mic are overwhelming. You’ll find loads of excellent prospects online for all types of applications. So if this sounds like you, and you’re looking for an excellent, budget-friendly condenser mic at an even better price, keep reading. In this article, we’ll provide an honest, unbiased, in-depth review of the MXL 770.

To put it into subjective terms, the MXL 990 presents as a “silky” voiced mic, while the MXL 770 sizzles. Another way to phrase it might be “classy” versus “brash.” Closing Notes While the MXL 770 is not the best of the best, it’s pretty close to the top-tier and very expensive Neumann U87. And it’s close in both specs and performance. The MXL 770 is a great microphone for capturing the instruments above and handling everything you throw at it. 3. Noise Isolation Or you could use the attenuation pad when the mic is sitting too close to a noisy signal, or when a person’s voice is uncomfortably above everything else during live streaming. Medium-sized diaphragm design MXL 770 has no difference since various performers love its sound production. It features an excellent FET preamp that helps balance output better dynamic range.
