About this deal

All of our resources should be accessible and fun, helping children with their spoken and written confidence. Gaining the confidence to contribute ideas, be creative when writing and share personal poems is key in helping KS2 children to develop. Thirdly, inspirational poems for children are great for providing motivation in your classroom. With words of encouragement to motivate your class to keep going to achieve greatness, they're sure to be inspired. The sprawl and fulness of babes, the bosoms and heads of women, the folds of their dress, their style as we pass in the street, the contour of their shape downwards, Use different volumes - for example, lowering our voice can create an atmosphere of suspense, whereas raising our voice can add emphasis

I enjoyed the book itself, and will definitely be using it in the years to come. It took me a while longer to read as I was annotating and coming up with ideas of how I would use the poems that I enjoyed most in the classroom. The Highwayman could also be the inspiration for children producing different types of writing e.g. Bess’s diary entries, a love letter from The Highwayman to Bess, a play depicting the meeting between Tim the ostler and the soldiers prior to the final shooting. A switch in perspective would also be intriguing, perhaps the poem could be re written as a story through the eyes of The Highwayman himself. If this collection of Inspirational Poems for Children has inspired your child to write their own poetry then our Write and Perform a Poem Activity is a perfect tool. What primary classroom would be complete without Please Mrs Butler? Let’s face facts, this poem is virtually your birth right if you are in junior school and is certainly a poem that every teacher should read to their children. It’s iconic, it’s cheeky and it’s fun- what more could we ask for?

Why are inspirational poems for children important?

My real breakthrough was THE GRUFFALO, again illustrated by Axel. We work separately - he’s in London and I’m in Glasgow - but he sends me letters with lovely funny pictures on the envelopes. These Inspirational Poems for Children are perfect to display in your classroom to provide children with words and images of hope, kindness and happiness. Why are inspirational poems for children important? If this collection of Inspirational Poems for Children has inspired your child to write their own poetry then our Write and Perform a Poem Activity I also continued to write “grown-up” songs and perform them in folk clubs and on the radio, and have recently released two CDs of these songs. Sharing poems with your child can help you bond, aid their development, and it can be a whole lot of fun.

It covers Performance Poetry in plenty of detail and explains exactly how to perform poetry, with loads of fun and creative techniques for the class to try.

The beauty of silly poems for kids is that they can stimulate different thought processes as well as dissolve your little ones into puddles of giggles. All this is accompanied by some lovely Twinkl illustrations that really bring the teaching to life. This is great for engaging all your students, as fun and colourful characters can help engage more visual learners. Performing a poem can offer pleasures unlike any other experience of literature. “Words mean more than what is set down on paper,” the poet Maya Angelou has written. “It takes the human voice to imbue them with the shades of deeper meaning.” But approaching a poem as a script for an oral performance demands that students pay attention to aspects of the work that they aren’t used to looking for. I’ve put together a list of sonically rich poems with strong narrative hooks—and a few performance tips that will point students in the high school and college classroom and beyond to the pleasures of reciting poetry.NUGGET: Sometimes the way we speak a poem happens very instinctively. We naturally use our voices to express the meaning we feel. But when helping children prepare a performance, it’s good to be aware of the different dynamics – and for them to be familiar with some basic terms. This fab Performance Poetry PowerPoint is the perfect way to introduce it to your class and bring your students' poetry to life. Make it fun. Don’t sit your child down and inform them they’re going to learn some poems. Instead, introduce them casually. Try this Speaking and Listening Talking Frame Cards to improve your students speaking and listening skills. What are some tips for performing poetry? Use poems in artwork, crafts, and other places so they are an everyday feature. That way, when the time comes for your child to learn about poetry at school, they’ll have a headstart in poetry appreciation.

From The Works: Every Poem You Will Ever Need at School chosen by Paul Cookson. ‘Uses’ by Rachel Rooney It first explains exactly what poetry is and how performance poetry differs from this, moving on to some of the techniques you can use when performing. This involves playing with the words and using different tones to suit each poem.I have a personal feeling that a handful of the poems were a little older. Not so much in the way that it would be harder for children to grasp or immerse themselves in (I'm all for sharing classics and spending the time to unravel and ask questions about them), but leaning more towards it being debatable if they quite have a place in the classroom anymore. For example, "The Wraggle Taggle Gipsies" and "From a Railway Carriage". I felt they may have been put in more as a nostalgia moment for Julia Donaldson rather than their suitability. I particularly enjoyed the poem ‘Walking the Dog’. I thought this poem may be excellent for use in a classroom as the subject matter, dogs, is something that interests many children, but also because of the many poetic features it includes, such as repetition, stanzas, and rhyme. These features make this book great to read aloud and perform but would also be appropriate for literacy lessons, to expose children to features of a poem. I also think the pictures make it appropriate for all ages. As well as analysing the poem, ‘Walking the Dog’ could be used as a template for early poetry writing, inspiring children to write their own poem about something that interests them.
